Respecting The Environment: Preservation and protection with green cottages.

Green Cottages

  • High ceilings and oversize windows that maximize natural light.
  • “Clean” burning propane furnaces, water heaters, stoves and BBQs – propane does not pollute the air and is more efficient for our commercial generator in the event of a power outage
  • Luxurious sustainable interiors i.e. hardwood/ceramic flooring, solid wood Canadian furniture, granite counters and upholstered chairs that feature environmentally safe polyester that is biodegradable and non-allergenic.
  • Our homes stay cool naturally because of the way they are built, reducing air conditioner use.
  • Low flush toilets.
  • Energy Star appliances.
  • Dimmer switches.
  • Exterior spotlights and lighting that has been positioned down thus minimizing light pollution
  • Therapeutic, Infra-red saunas that, unlike hot tubs, only use energy when in use.
  • Enclosed recycling centres – recycling is mandatory at Frontenac Shores, and is assisted by a regular checking/sorting program.

We're preserving the land around us.

Frontenac Shores - Environmental Protection

At Frontenac Shores our goal is to preserve this great natural setting not only now, but for generations to come:

  • Only green products are used for cottage cleaning.
  • Fertilizers and pesticides are not used anywhere at Frontenac Shores.
  • Our waste water system is a commercial peat system that filters out everything – including more phosphorus than any other system on the market. These are placed at the extreme rear of the property and pumped well over 300 feet from the shoreline.
  • Cars are parked at cottages for convenient access. They are not used, however, for any transport around the property. All roads are used for rear entrance only, providing only walking paths on the property.
  • Non-motorized watercraft such as canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats are available.
  • Our development plans preserve mature trees and forest cover and ensure only minimal disruption of existing trees – for every tree that is taken down for building, additional trees, plants, shrubs, etc. are planted that are all indigenous to our area.
  • Frontenac Shores has over 10,000 square km of undeveloped bush area to the north (most of it Crown Land, as well as Bon Echo Provincial Park and Matachewan Nature Reserve) which acts as a carbon reservoir that keeps heat-trapping greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, while preserving the natural environment.
